Boat, RV, and Commercial Vehicle storage is becoming
a new denominator in the self-storage arena. What
was once an ancillary income from parking in the
back lot, is quickly becoming a primary line-item
focus for almost every self-storage project. Many of
today’s super-projects are providing customers with
inside storage to store and protect these valuable
oversized assets. While keeping these items out of
the weather, out of sight, and out of harm’s way,
their owners are also able to minimize depreciation
by keeping the boat or RV in pristine condition for
a longer period time. The problem is, how do you get
these large vehicles into the smallest unit they
will fit in, and not sacrifice driveway space that
can be used for another income producing building?
The EZ-Access Roll-Up Door is one solution catching
on quickly in these new projects. The EZ-Access unit
is two doors in one. First, it provides your
customer with a 3’x7’ pedestrian swing door for ease
of access into the unit; Second, the large roll-up
door can be opened from inside the unit with a
gear-reduced chain hoist or optional electric motor
operator; and Last, the 3x7 swing door is hinged to
the unit side wall providing a full width opening
for moving in-or out the larger vehicle. As easy as
1-2-3, and the unit is fully accessible for even the
largest vehicle.
The EZ-Access Roll-Up Door is an all-in-one front
entrance and roll-up door entry system, providing
quick and easy access to any secured area without
having to open the larger roll-up door first. In
addition to the improved accessibility provided by
the EZ-Access Door, this roll-up door product can
provide an energy cost savings because of the
smaller opening within the door system that helps to
conserve the energy used for heating and cooling of
the unit's interior space. You can enter and exit
the unit without having to operate the larger
roll-up door, saving both time and energy.
The EZ-Access Roll-Up Door keeps construction costs
down by providing for a single wall penetration per
unit. This single opening includes the Roll-Up Door
and the Pedestrian Door all-in-one. This innovative
new door system also complies with local code
requirements that may mandate two exits for a single
unit, especially in the design of condominium
warehousing.
By providing access to the individual unit through a
small pedestrian door, the larger roll-up door
becomes easier to lift with the aid of a
reduced-drive chain hoist mechanism, therefore
minimizing the need for automatic door openers
except as an option-only accessory. Electric Motor
Operators are available to open the roll-up door,
however, the folding of the swing door mechanism
parallel with the unit wall must still be operated
manually. In case of a power outage, both the chain
hoist operated door and the optionally motor
operated door can be accessed from inside the unit,
allowing the renter to fully open both doors and
retrieve their valuables at any time.
In addition to being more customer friendly, the EZ-Access
Roll-Up Door adds value to any self-storage property
as well as a competitive advantage for the owner and
operator. Now your renters can easily access their
unit, maintain the highest level of security, and
only open the entire unit when they need the extra
opening width for removal of their vehicle or boat.
The wider openings allow for minimal access driveway
width, thus in many cases allowing for more rentable
building space on the overall project. Available in
industry colors to match most architectural schemes,
the EZ-Access Roll-Up Doors are custom made to fit
any opening size up to 17’ wide and 14’ high. Ask
your Roll Up Doors Direct for information for your
new or existing project.
Tension device. Ratcheting
Tension Device
U.S. Door & Building Components is proud to announce
its new “ratcheting” tension device. This innovation
allows installers, maintenance personnel, and
managers alike to easily and quickly adjust roll-up
door tension without any special tools. Using a
simple steel rod, the tension is adjusted by simply
“clicking” the rotating bezel to the next slot. This
device secures itself automatically, eliminating
potential for damage and personal injury. Make sure
to include this option on your next proposal.

June was
an exciting month for Londoners with the Queen's
Golden Jubilee, the World Cup and Wimbledon. And
June 26 was an auspicious date for the U.K.
self-storage industry as well. More than 100 guests
were present at a reception hosted by Inside
Self-Storage and the U.S. Department of Commerce at
the American Embassy in London. The guest list was
composed of an impressive number of decision-makers
in banking, investment, development, construction
and self-storage. Captains of these industries were
brought together to learn more about the dynamic
growth of opportunities in self-storage in the
United Kingdom and Europe.
While
nibbling hors d'oeuvres and sipping drinks,
attendees listened to U.S. industry veteran Jim
Chiswell, of Chiswell & Associates, as he presented
a comprehensive overview of the industry. Peppered
by Chiswell's humorous observations and anecdotes,
the production contained convincing figures
illustrating how population and economic factors are
creating a huge need for self-storage in U.K. and
European markets. A panel of self-storage experts
was also on hand to answer questions: Graham Lomax
and Kevin Lennie, Rabco Europe Ltd.; Rick Dodge, Rib
Roof Metals Inc.; Lez Cooke and Pieter Ligtvoet,
U.S. Door & Building Components Inc.; Rob Hadden,
DBCI; and Terry Rider, Roll Right Industries Inc.
Following
the presentation, guests were able to mingle,
discussing and possibly developing the beginnings of
business relationships that will facilitate the
growth of the self-storage industry in the United
Kingdom and abroad.
Enhance
Productivity and Safety for Your Business with
Industrial Roll Up Doors
If you own a
warehouse, storage facility, or industrial
business, you probably realize the importance of
safety, productivity, and energy conservation.
Old doors to divide your plant sections or
warehouse storage areas can be a hazard in more
ways than one. That's why it's a good idea to
replace your old doors with new,
energy-efficient roll up doors. Here are some
benefits and key features of roll up doors. Easy to Use
One issue that's often overlooked in
manufacturing facilities is ease of use for the
doors. Doors can be a hassle, especially those
that swing outward or upward when opened. They
must be held open or "held up" by some type of
device or they could possibly fall or close
suddenly on a worker or on your equipment. This
can pose a threat to workers on the job every
day without their realizing it. For instance,
someone operating moving equipment such as a
forklift could easily crash into an open door
and get hurt or damage the products they are
carrying.
With commercial rollup doors, workers can easily
and quickly open and close the doors for a fast
entrance or exit. This helps to improve
productivity and prevent door hazards. When you
replace your doors with rollup doors, you can
choose the method of opening and closing such as
manual push-up, chain, or motor operated doors.
Heavy-Duty for Protection
Rollup doors come in heavy-duty materials for
protection against burglary, weathering, and
on-the-job accidents. The doors usually come in
materials such as steel, wood, or concrete to
provide safety and insulation against cold and
heat. Many rollup doors provide protection
against dust or contaminants in the air for food
processing plants or chemical plants. If you
live in an area where there are frequent
hurricanes or high winds, there are rollup doors
that can withstand high winds and heavy rains.
Customized for Your Needs
Industrial roll up doors can be customized to
meet your needs. A rollup door specialist can
measure your door openings and create rollup
doors to fit perfectly with your building. They
come in many colors that are bright and
easily-recognized by workers, day or night.
Save Money with Commercial Roll Up Doors
You can save money on energy costs by installing
insulated rollup doors. These can keep cold air
in and hot air out during the hot months, and
vice versa during the winter months. Another way
to save money is by reducing the number of
safety hazards for workers. This helps reduce
injuries on the job, workers compensation, and
insurance premiums. Rollup doors provide a safe
alternative to other types of doors or sectional
barriers.
Other Rollup Door Products
Even if you don't manage a factory or warehouse,
there are still many other uses for rollup
doors. There are mini storage doors, roll garage
doors, and self storage doors to provide you
with safe, convenient storage or garage doors.
With rollup doors, you can make life easier for
your workers and enjoy a safer, more productive
environment at your plant or warehouse. Check
